To kick off the start of Breckenridge's Spring Fever 2011 is "Gaper Day"! Every year on April 1st (April Fool's Day) locals race to the slopes dressed as gapers. What is a gaper you ask? Here is the definition from the Urban Dictionary:
A gaper is a skier or snowboarder who is completely clueless. Usually distinguised by their bright colored clothes and a gaper gap, the gap between goggles and a helmet/hat. Gapers also do the "Gaper Tuck" which is an attempt at being a ski racer by tucking, however, it is done incorrectly with the poles sticking straight up like thunderbolts and lighting, very very frightning!
Don't worry Gaper Day is all in good fun. If you are on the slopes today look around you will see some pretty amusing outfits, locals skiing backwards or doing the "Gaper Tuck". Definately spring skiing at its finest!
