Breckenridge Colorado Named a Gold Level Bike Friendly Community
It was just announced that Breckenridge Colorado has been upgraded from silver to gold status as a bike-friendly community by the League of American Bicyclists. Breckenridge is now one of 14 communities to have gold level status. The highest level awarded by the League of American Bicyclists is platinum and currently, there are only three cities that have platinum status.

Breckenridge has made a large push towards promoting bicycling in the community. They have done so by creating designated bike lanes on Park Avenue and Main Street, hosted a bike week, were the Stage Five finish of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, educating people through information on their website about biking and much more. The League of American Bicyclists rates towns that apply for the award on four levels bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Once a community receives an award they hold the title for four years, during these four years they can work on improving their town to possibly move up to a higher ranking.
It was also just announced that the USA Pro Cycling Challenge will be returning to Colorado in 2012. The event will take place August 20-26, 2012. Currently, there has been an official request sent out to all Colorado cities to send in proposals for their city to be on the circuit. A spokesperson for the USA Pro Cycling Challenge has said that Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Frisco have been specifically invited to submit proposals.
