Beware! Wild Wildlife in Summit County, CO

If you’ve been in the mountains looking at available properties for sale in Summit County, Colorado, keep your eyes and ears open for the awakening wildlife this spring. Wildlife officers are offering their annual advice as black bears and other wildlife begin looking for food following months of hibernation.
Bears will almost certainly return to a location they have found easy meals. This can change the bear’s behavior and habits. Note that wildlife can only be trapped, tagged and relocated once, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers do not want to have to euthanize wildlife. The best way to keep these interactions at a minimum is to follow some of these recommendations:
  1. Wait to put your trash out until the day of pick up
  2. Don’t fill bird feeders
  3. Completely burn-off grills after cooking
  4. Use bear-proof outdoor dumpsters
